Children’s Wallpaper

Surface Design / Illustration

Software used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

Children’s Wallpaper is something before these prints. I thought I would challenge myself and make something for a different age group.
My idea was to do something that was nautical inspired. Something with a bit more fun and more organic. I started by drawing some simple boats on a bit of paper to get a something that would be a bit freer flowing and fit a more child-like drawing style with simple shapes and rough lines. I took these into illustrator and started making them. I did not like the solid lines so I made them look more organic by using a free lino cut brush I had found which made the lines look freer flowing and fit the style I was looking for.

I ended up with 10 different illustrations which I was happy with and could form a pattern with. I started by placing the pieces into a square where I could manipulate them to make a very detailed pattern. The pattern which I created had a very organic process and doing it this way formed an organic wave which brings the eye in to the pattern making it more visually appealing.
I also wanted to create an animal themed print and looking at trending themes, I decided to do flamingos, the bold pink really works well with the darker grey and would age well with the child.
